Hello everyone :-) If you are on this page either you are having computer issues or just curious. Honestly, I hope you are just checking things out. Having computer issues can be anything from just annoying to an absolute nightmare!! I know this because I am an Operations Analyst (that's professional jargon for a PC tech) for a hospital here in town. I also work on PC's at home from time to time for other people. Set up a few wired and wireless networks for some business' in this area. At home between my son and I there are 2 desktops (one of the desktops is running 2 monitors and a 32" tv), then a media center PC that feeds a 51" 3D Plasma TV via fully digital HDMI. Also there is 3 wireless laptops, 1 printer/storage server (not an old junk tower PC ... its a real Dell Power Edge 2650 server), 1 B/W laserjet printer, 1 color laserjet, 1 color inkjet printer/fax/copier, 1 wired/wireless router daisy chained into 24 port Cisco switch for LAN parties. Also, I am Microsoft and CompTIA certified. Why do you care about all that stuff I just spilled out on ya? Simple .. I want you to know that I am a real person that knows these programs that I recommend on this page do work! Many of them I use on a daily basis. Some only occasionally. All of the ones on this page are links to freebie downloads! I will add more as I discover and test them. But, even though I recommend these programs, I do want to stress to you use them at your own descression. Me or anyone or anything connected to this site are not in anyway or anyform responsible for anyones data or hardware on their PC regaurdless of what program is or is not used. Oh yea ... one more thing. There are some of you car people come to this site expecting nothing but cars. Let me explain the computer part of this site. As it states above I work with computers for a living. I get asked computer questions at least 5 - 10 times a day. So instead of trying to explain where to get this tool or that tool. I send them here to get the tools, one stop place for everything. But in a different point of view. Computers and cars really aren't that differnt. You can keep them stock or modify them. You can paint the cases any color you like. Take out the processor and add a faster one ... ya know like swapping an engine in a car. Or, add RAM to your PC to make it perform faster is like adding a turbo to make your car faster. So if you came to Power Addicts expecting nothing but cars .. you got a bonus. Use the tools to clean your PC so you can surf my site faster.

Sites do sometimes move and the links become broken. I will keep check on this to ensure that the links stay intact. If you discover that one is broken, Google the name of the program and you will find it.

ATF Cleaner - This is a great tool to use on a weekly basis. Look for the words "ATF Cleaner" in red about middle of the page. I use this daily at work so I do know how well it works.
CCleaner - This one is my most used & favorite. It cleans the *junk* that helps slow your PC down. Keep this one in your PC fixin tool folder! I use this one on a regular basis.
Advanced WindowsCare Personal - Very good program! It cleans spyware, removes temps and many other "issue fixers". Has a few other neat tools built in also.
MyDefrag - Great Hard Drive defragmenter program. Read the "Tips" on the page this link opens. They can help with a slow PC. Honestly except for Vista, the Windows installed defrag works pretty good.
AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition - Free Anti-Virus program. This program has always been very good to me. I run this on my media center PC. I install this on my customers PC also.
Clamwin - Good light weight program. I have this running on my printer/storage server.
Avast Home Edition - Yet another great FREE Anti-Virus program. I have this running on the netbook I'm using now to build this site.
Spyware Blaster - This program helps block the Spyware from entering your PC to begin with. It doesn't remove it if it has already infected your PC.

Please understand something. When I say that these programs "HELPS" block Spyware/Virus from entering your PC. NO progam .. paid or free ..  can stop the bugs from entering 100% of the time. They can make those claims until the cows come home but here is the truth and the facts why. Virus and Maleware have signatures (aka fake names), they can change the signatures at any given time. It can be while still on the website storing them, it could be during the planting or downloading of the bug to your PC, or it could be after infecting your PC. With the signatures changing are combined with who knows how many new maleware/virus bugs that are released hourly ... not just daily ...  from all over the world. There can be occasionally something slip through the best of Antivirus or Maleware program. Now some of you might be saying "Whats the use in even having a AntiMaleware/Antivirus installed if that's true?" Well .. it's like this. If you run through the internet with no protection at all hopping from one site to another. You're PC is about 99% sure to get something. Add the protection programs and you are FAR less likely to have an infected PC.

To help keep your PC performing as best as it can, I recommend not using "Tool Bars". They cause alot of internet "chatter" for your PC. This eats away at the resources that your PC has, eventually helping bring it down to a crawl. If you need Google, Yahoo or what ever search engine you like. Save it in your "Favorites" and use that as a quick link to the search engine.

Portable Apps - I LOVE THIS SITE!! I have an 16 gig jump drive set up some of these applications. I have a full functioning office package & antivirus scanner on my flashdrive!! Seriously!!
Open Office - Not as fast as MS Office ... but its FREE!! Does all that the MS Office package does. Slower on loading the applications ... but it's FREE!! Unlike the sick expensive Microsoft Office package ... this is free!!! Im guessing you get my point ... huh?
7-Zip - A completly free and better alternative to WinZip. Opens more types of files. Compresses better and different types of extensions.
Foxit PDF Reader - A PDF reader that is faster and lighter than Adobe Reader. I use the portable version and I like it much better than Adobe!!
DBAN - Need to wipe a drive TOTALLY clean? Here is the program you need. NO DATA CAN BE RECOVERED AFTER USING THIS PROGRAM.
  

Internet Browsers

Internet Explorer -  This is a link to the latest version of IE.
Mozilla Firefox - I use this browser a lot. It has lots of cool add ons. Don't get carried away adding the fun stuff. It will slow down your internet surfing.
Google Chrome -  Cool brower from Google. I really like this browser also. Very cool interface to work with.
Apple Safari - Clean, very little clutter and a fast browser. Apple has created a version for Windows users.
